Stop 2 – Lake Neely Henry, Alabama - May 22 – 24 Lake Neely Henry was the number 1 stop in 2006 but I did not fish it back then…so it was all new to me. I had 4 days of pre-fishing and during that time my husband and I had a great practice on the weekend, catching 2 spotted bass that pushed the 4lb mark. This was a good sign…however, I was not satisfied with just having those river fish to depend on so during official practice I set out to find alternate water. I found one spot which yielded several solid 2 pound spots and felt pretty comfortable going into day one…
Day 1 – Set out that morning to concentrate on my river fish…fished and fished and fished and did not catch one keeper on that pattern. I then decided I could not die on the river so I headed to my alternate spot and managed to pick up 4 small spots that only weighed 3lbs. 11oz. Not a good day, but still anybody’s ball game. I did draw Charlotte Frazier for my day one partner…she is from Texas and we had a great day…she is a sweetheart and I hope we fish again some day. Day 2 – Strategy change for today, I will go get my limit then concentrate my efforts on bigger river fish. I managed to get to my spot and pick up a limit by 10:00 a.m. I then headed for the river ledges where I had caught bigger fish during practice…but as luck would have it, no big fish were to be caught during the tournament. My partner for the day was Jada Tidmore from Alabama. Thanks for a great day! I ended the tournament in 40th place…not my best performance, but on to Tennessee. Thank you again RD…I love you.
